Applications: A labeled neurohypophysial hormone. Its two primary functions are to retain water in the body and to constrict blood vessels. The compound regulates water retention by increasing water reabsorption in the kidneys. It increases peripheral vascular resistance, which increases arterial blood pressure. May play an important role in social behavior, sexual motivation and pair bonding, and maternal response to stress.
